Welcome to the Land of the Thousand Hills! Arrival at Kigali Airport where you will be welcomed by Vija Logistics and Travel Limited representative and transferred to Bishop’s House for overnight.
Full day in the vibrant capital city of Kigali, where you can enjoy a guided city tour and visit some interesting, historical sites. Learn more about Rwanda’s heart-rending history at the Genocide Memorial Centre and visit the Nyamata Church. You will also have the opportunity to stroll at the colorful markets or buy traditional African handworks at the Craft Village.
After breakfast we calmly transfer to the eastern part of the country. Reaching the unexplored Akagera National Park you will be surprised by the changes in landscape and vegetation. After checking in at your accommodation you will go for an afternoon game drive for a first introduction with Rwanda’s wildlife.
Early in the morning we will follow the tracks in search of elephants, lions, buffalos and a variety of birds. Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon we will experience the park from a different perspective with a scenic boat trip along Lake Ihema. You will float quietly past herds of hippos and huge crocodiles lying lazy on the shores.
Enjoy another morning game drive before we head back to Kigali. Afternoon at leisure and possibility to explore the city at your own convenience.
After breakfast we transfer towards the southern part of the country. En route we will make a stop to visit the Royal Palace Museum in Nyanza, the Rwanda National Museum in Butare, which houses one of the finest collections in East Africa and we will have lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon we continue to the mysterious rain forest of Nyungwe, a true birders paradise and renowned for its many species of primates.
A full day to enjoy the magical surroundings of Nyungwe Forest National Park! In the morning we will go for an exciting primate walk in search of the habituation chimpanzees. Afternoon at leisure or if you’re looking for some more adventure, why not join an optional forest walk or canopy tour?!
From Nyungwe Forest we continue to Lake Kivu for some relaxation. It is the largest lake in Rwanda and beautifully located amid mountains and green hills. Enjoy lunch in the romantic town of Kibuye, before checking in at your accommodation in Gisenyi.
In the morning you have the opportunity to visit the nearby Hot Springs of Bralirwa or go for a boat ride on the lake, while exploring the small islands and rich birdlife. After lunch we will have a short drive to one of the most beautiful national parks of the country: Volcanoes National Park.
Today you will have the opportunity to spend some time with the endangered mountain gorillas. You will make a beautiful hike through the green landscape and hills of the Virunga Volcanoes. Spend a magical hour with these amazing creatures while your guide will explain more about the family and their behavior.
In the afternoon we will visit the village Iby’Iwacu, located in the shadows of the Virunga Volcanoes, where reformed poachers showcase the traditional Rwandan way of life.
Have a relaxed breakfast and enjoy the beautiful scenery one more time as we calmly transfer back to Kigali with (packed) lunch. Depending on the time of your international flight you will be dropped at Kigali International Airport.
